There is a pleasing sense of continuity, in that whilst our antiheroes survived the perils of Camorr, Red Seas does not present them with a clean slate. It’s just that it took a while for the magic of The Lies of Locke Lamorato fade – it needed to, if I was going to give the sequel a fair chance.Ī chunky 630 pages, Red Seas picks up two years after the events of the previous book. It’s not that I didn’t want to pick this novel up. I mention this to explain my long hesitation in getting to Red Seas Under Red Skies. Even if the sequels of such books are excellent reads in their own right, there is no avoiding a judgement based on comparison.
